"The Micro"
"The Annex" was never intended to be lived in. It's impossible to cool; and, just about as hard to heat. In March, I started work on what got named "the micro." I've been living there since late May - after I got the lower roof on; but, before I even had the south end closed in. (Had to just use tarps for a while, until I had the south edges closed in and the doors put together. At least it was air conditioned, thanks to a good deal I got from a local pawn shop!) As of the start of this page (09/30/2013), I've getting really close to having it (pretty well) finished. I'm currently working on the upper roof (and waiting for some more spray foam "shavings," to pack into the space between the two); and, working on getting the water line run over to it. I'll be posting pics here, as I get them. In some ways, this page will be sort of an "update blog" of the progress I'm making.
Later today (09/30/13), ATT is supposed to be out to set up a "temporary box;" so, I'm hoping to be able to have my landline working up there by tonight. :D (They made it out!!! The phone has a bad habit of deregistering itself; but, for the most part, I now have a land-line at the micro. YEAH!!!!
10/17/13: As of Sun. (10/13), I now have a functioning sink in the micro. YEAH!!!!!! Even though I'm still pretty well living "like I'm in a 3rd world country," I'm rapidly approaching "3rd world country middle class...." I was able to get a used router; and, I'm making progress with getting it set up. I'm hoping to be able to have internet there pretty soon; but, I don't want to "count my chickens before they hatch..."
Now that I have a post hole digger that has 2 handles, I was able to complete the hole for the outhouse completed; and, I hope to have the outhouse finished soon. It's amazing just how much harder it is to use things like post hole diggers as one gets older. I STILL haven't recovered from doing that hole!!! It REALLY "kicked my butt!!!"
I'm sort of held up right now, awaiting broken bags of sackcrete, to seal the ground around the barrel; so, nothing leaks in - or OUT...
This winter, that toilet seat is going to be REALLY COLD, though! Lowe's sells "toilet seat warmers;" but, they want about $50 for what amounts to a heating pad with a little velcro on it, which attaches to the underside of the lid. They have to be special ordered; so, I haven't seen one; but, my guess is that they might be constructed more like a waterbed heater. If anyone has either an old heating pad (withOUT "auto-off") or an old waterbed heater laying around in a closet, collecting dust, I'd LOVE to "give it a good home." :)
I'm posting these pics with the most recent at the top; and, the oldest at the bottom; so, folks don't have to wade through the older pics unless they just happen to want to.
